Adam Idris Lim Wei, a second-year student at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), is the President of the school’s Civil Defence (CD) Lionhearter Club and an SCDF scholar with a curious and innovative mind.
Adam joined the Lionhearter Club in his first year as he wanted to contribute to society in a meaningful way by applying his first-aid skillsets which he honed during his National Service with the SCDF.
“I joined the CD Lionhearter Club because I feel that more can be done in the community by educating members of the public on how to be more aware of what to do when emergencies occur,” said Adam.
It was not long before Adam became the President of the Club and began sharing his lifesaving experiences as a former NSF and a volunteer Fire & Rescue Specialist with his fellow club members. He also organised Emergency Preparedness Day events and conducts roadshows to engage the public and impart knowledge and skillsets to them.
Adam’s proudest moment was when he and his team clinched second place for the SCDF Lifesavers’ Innovation Challenge in 2018, after they designed and built a device to help firefighters keep track of air consumption through IoT. He was awarded the Home Team Local Study Award in August the following year.
“This scholarship gives me the opportunity to improve the lives of others around me through my passion to find innovative solutions, as well as using what I learned in my experience as a volunteer fire and rescue specialist and a trained first-aid provider,” said Adam.
When asked about his career plan after his graduation, Adam expressed enthusiasm serving with the SCDF. He said he sees himself joining the Home Team Science and Technology (HTX) to help develop tech solutions to contribute to Home Team’s growing capabilities.
“I resonate with SCDF’s consistent push for innovation to make things work even better. There is always something to improve on to become more effective in the work that we do and to make our lives better,” Adam commented when asked about his career choice.
