4 persons injured as a result of Flash-fire in the MDF room

At 1159hrs, SCDF received calls that someone was injured due to a flash-fire at the No. 8, Lor 39 Geylang, Sims Residence. Upon receiving the notification, 1 Fire Engine, 2 Ambulances were despatched immediately to the incident location.

Upon arrival, the crew reported of 4 men who sustained burn injuries due to the flash-fire that occurred in the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) Room on the ground floor of the residence" carpark.

Preliminary investigation reviewed that there was leakage of town gas from the underground low pressure pipe. The leakage had resulted in an accumulation of combustible gas within the MDF room and when one of the men switched on the light, it sparked off a flash-fire.

The impact of the flash-fire had also caused cracks on the ceilings and walls of the MDF room. As a result of the flash-fire, a small portion of perimeter wall of a sealed-up compartment that was next to the MDF room collapsed outwards. There was no injury reported as a result of the collapse.

SCDF and Engineers from BCA and SP Power Grid are at scene, conducting further investigation and ensuring that the site is safe for the residents.

All 4 casualties were conveyed to SGH in 2 ambulances. 2 of the casualties sustained burn injuries to their face and scalp, 1 of them sustained burn injuries to his face and hand and the last of the casualties sustained burn injuries on both hands.
