Person trapped under metal racks
15 August 2014

SCDF was alerted to an incident involving a man who was trapped under metal racks, in a storage room at No 230A Pandan Loop.1 Fire Engine, 1 Red Rhino, 1 ambulance and 2 support vehicles were dispatched to the incident site.

Upon arrival, SCDF found a male Chinese in his 60s, completely pinned under two large metal racks, one on top of another.

An SCDF paramedic assessed the man and found no pulse.

The metal racks, measuring about 1.5 m by 1.5 m and about 4 m in height, contained about 70 crates of fruits each. To extricate the body, SCDF rescuers had to manually remove the crates of fruits before lifting the metal racks with the help of two forklifts. The rescue operation had to be cautiously carried out as any abrupt movement of the toppled racks would cause the adjacent metal racks to also topple over.

The man was pronounced dead by SCDF Paramedic and the case was handed over to the Police.
