Update of the Deployment of SCDF Officers to support Philippines in the Tropical Storm Bopha Relief Efforts
21 December 2012

The three SCDF officers who were deployed to assist in the Tropical Storm Bopha relief efforts in Philippines have returned to Singapore. The officers arrived in Philippines on Monday 3 December 2012 at about 1300 hrs and returned to Singapore on Friday 21 December 2012 at 1145 hrs.

The three officers were deployed under the auspices of United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or UNOCHA. One of the officers was deployed as part of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team to assist in the conduct of assessment of the situation and the resulting humanitarian needs. He also helped to establish and oversee the management of a humanitarian office near the most affected areas to better coordinate relief efforts.

The two other officers who are info-communications specialists, were deployed under the Asia-Pacific Humanitarian Partnership (APHP) team to support the UNDAC teams in information management and to establish communication links to facilitate coordination of the relief efforts.
