Flash Floods in Kelantan, Malaysia
Flash Floods in Kelantan, Malaysia, 2014
In December 2014, consecutive days of torrential rain led to flash floods in Kelantan, Malaysia. As the floodwaters rose, thousands of people were displaced from their homes.
SCDF deployed four officers from the Operation Lionheart contingent to assist in flood relief efforts. The team was led by WO1 Ismail Bin Latiff, Deputy Platoon Commander, DART, and supported by SSG Azmir Ali Bin Ameer Ali, a DART Specialist; SSG Andy Ng, a Fire and Rescue Specialist; and Mr Suhaimi Bin Da'ed, a Technical Support Officer.
Upon arrival, the team set up and operated water purification units, which were vital in providing clean water supply to the affected population. After aiding in the flood relief effort for two weeks, the team returned to Singapore on 15 January 2015.
