Drenched in sweat but standing proud at SCDF’s Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) Specialist Course passing-out ceremony was SGT3 Ahmad Fauzan Bin Ahmad Jupri. As SGT2 Ahmad Fouzy Bin Ahmad Jupri watched the ceremony, he felt a surge of pride towards his elder brother.
“I know the DART course had been tough on my brother,” SGT2 Fouzy recalled. “Watching him receive the DART Specialist shoulder tab during the ceremony gave me immense pride and joy. I am proud to call him my brother, my DART brother.”
This milestone reflected not only SGT3 Fauzan’s perseverance but also the brothers’ unshakable bond, forged through years of shared challenges and mutual support.

From a young age, both brothers embraced an active lifestyle through sports, making it the stage for their friendly rivalry. “Even today, we still meet to run together,” SGT3 Fauzan shared. “But I am sure that I am still the faster runner,” he laughed. These activities, which started as simple childhood pastimes, have built a close-knit and lifelong bond between them.
Currently a Section Commander at Kallang Fire Station, 29-year-old SGT3 Fauzan has been with the SCDF for six years.
Inspired by the noble disaster assistance and humanitarian missions by SCDF’s Operation Lionheart contingent, he set his sights on being a part of DART. “For me, joining this elite team is not only a challenge to myself, but also an opportunity for me to contribute to my country,” SGT3 Fauzan explained.

Throughout the DART Specialist Course, SGT3 Fauzan’s family was his greatest source of strength. “It’s comforting to know that my family was rooting for me, and I wanted to make them proud,” he shared.
Inspired by his brother’s commitment to saving lives, 27-year-old SGT2 Fouzy sought a career where he could make a positive impact to society. After serving his National Service in the Singapore Police Force (SPF), he later joined the Special Operations Command (SOC) as a Police Tactical Operator.
Coincidentally, while his elder brother was undergoing the DART Specialist Course at the Civil Defence Academy, SGT2 Fouzy was also at the Academy for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course, as part of his training as a Police Tactical Operator.
This provided an opportunity for the brothers to support each other through their specialised training. “During the EMT course, my brother shared some pointers on responding to medical emergencies. He reminded me to stay focused and composed at all times,” SGT2 Fouzy said, appreciating his brother’s advice.
As the brothers grow and learn from one another, their understanding of each other’s roles deepens. “Listening to my brother’s experiences as a Fire and Rescue Specialist made me appreciate the courage and commitment required in his line of work,” SGT2 Fouzy said. “Reflecting on my own experiences in the SPF, I now recognise how both organisations impact lives in different but equally meaningful ways.”
In turn, SGT3 Fauzan admires his younger brother’s staunch discipline and leadership skills. “Seeing my younger brother train hard and develop into a competent and confident leader, ready to lead his team, makes me incredibly proud of him,” he said.
As part of their family tradition, the brothers will meet their family at least once a week for family dinners or activities. Over the years, the brothers have become pillars of support for one another. “As we understand each other better, our relationship has matured to one of mutual respect and admiration,” SGT3 Fauzan said.
This supportive dynamic has been crucial in their professional development. “We have always viewed each other’s achievements as benchmarks to foster a growth mindset. It has never been about competition; rather, it motivates us to stay driven and continuously improve ourselves,” SGT2 Fouzy explained.
“Most importantly, I know that I will never be alone in this world as my brother will always be there for me, and I can count on him,” he added, reflecting on the deep connection they share.
The brothers’ principle of always giving their best drives them to excel in their respective fields.
“Whatever you do, give it 100%,” they often remind each other. “Finish what you start, then evaluate and improve on it. Always give your best during training and operations as you have the power to make a difference to the lives of others.”
This shared mantra fuels both brothers to remain dedicated to their profession while staying firmly by each other’s side through every challenge in life.
