Our Curriculum

NCDCC’s curriculum focuses mainly on Triangle of Life Skills which include basic firefighting, first aid and CPR+AED. These are important lifesaving skills that can make a difference to save a life in times of needs.

Year 1 - Year 4/5

Year 1

Our Year 1 Cadets engage in thrilling practical training through Experiential Learning. They master the use of hose reels and fire extinguishers on simulators, whilst acquiring essential fire safety knowledge and various other skills.

Through basic footdrill training, cadets develop crucial values such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. The Total Defence Programme aims to instil National Education (NE) Dispositions in cadets, preparing them not just for their roles within the cadet organisation, but also as active citizens of Singapore.

Upon completing three badge works - Fire Safety, Footdrill (Bronze), and Total Defence (Bronze) - these cadets become eligible for promotion to the rank of Lance Corporal.

Year 2

Our Year 2 Cadets continue their journey with an intensive curriculum designed to broaden their skills and knowledge enabling them to achieve a double promotion from Lance Corporal to Sergeant.

Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on practice, they work towards completing six essential badges: Civil Defence Knowledge, First Aid Proficiency, SANA (anti-drug awareness), Footdrill (Silver), CPR+AED Proficiency, and Rescue Proficiency. These badges cover a wide range of crucial skills, from emergency response to community service. The programme emphasises both individual competence and teamwork, further developing the cadets' leadership abilities and sense of civic responsibility.

Upon successfully completing these six badge works, cadets become eligible for promotion to the rank of Sergeant, recognising their increased capabilities and commitment to the cadet organisation.

Year 3

Our Year 3 Cadets embark on a more specialised and advanced training programme, designed to hone their expertise in specific areas of emergency response.

The curriculum focuses on two essential badges: the HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials) Proficiency Badge and the Homefront Security Badge. These badges equip cadets with crucial skills in handling dangerous substances and understanding national security challenges. Additionally, cadets have the opportunity to delve deeper into their areas of interest through four Specialisation Courses: Fire Safety, Marine Fire and Rescue, Medical Response, and Urban Search and Rescue. These courses provide in-depth knowledge and practical skills, preparing cadets for more complex emergency scenarios. The programme not only enhances technical proficiency but also cultivates critical thinking and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.

Upon successful completion of their chosen Specialisation Course, cadets become eligible for promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant, recognising their advanced capabilities and leadership potential within the cadet organisation.

Year 4

Our Year 4 Cadets enter the final stage of their cadet journey, focusing on advanced skills and broader perspectives of emergency services. The curriculum introduces the Psychological First Aid badge programme, equipping cadets with crucial skills to support individuals in crisis situations. This training enhances their ability to provide holistic care during emergencies, complementing their technical skills with essential emotional support capabilities.

Additionally, an exciting learning journey to the Home Team Gallery is planned, offering cadets a unique opportunity to develop a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness between various agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs. This experience broadens their view beyond the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), fostering a more comprehensive understanding of national security and emergency response.

Throughout the year, cadets continue to refine their leadership skills and demonstrate their commitment to the organisation. Recognising exceptional performance and potential, the top tier of Cadet Leaders will be selected for promotion to the prestigious rank of Warrant Officer within their unit, marking the pinnacle of achievement in the cadet programme.

Cadet Lieutenant

Description:

Cadet Lieutenants (CLTs) are a distinguished group of young volunteers who were once NCDCC cadets. Only the exceptional Year 4 cadets, who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, unwavering commitment, and exemplary performance throughout their NCDCC journey, are selected for the prestigious CLT course at the end of the year.

Cadet Lieutenants are chosen based on their academic excellence, physical fitness, and ability to embody the core values of the organization. These elite cadets play a crucial role in mentoring junior cadets, assisting in the planning and execution of unit activities, and serving as ambassadors for NCDCC at various events.

Their responsibilities include leading complex training exercises, representing their units in inter-school competitions, and contributing to the overall development of the NCDCC program. The rank of Cadet Lieutenant not only recognizes the cadet’s achievements but also prepares them for potential leadership roles in civil defense and community service beyond their school years.

Description:

NCDCC Honorary Officers (HOs) are a group of skilled adult volunteers appointed to offer specialised expertise and support to HQ NCDCC and School Units. They undergo a rigorous selection process, including a stringent interview and a comprehensive two-week course, before being formally appointed and engaged as HOs.
