Civil Defence Emergency Handbooks
The Civil Defence Emergency Handbook (CDEH) is one of the primary means through which the SCDF reaches out to all segments of the population. It aims to equip our readers with essential life-saving skills in times of emergency.
The 9th edition of the CDEH incorporates developments that were implemented in recent years such as the Save-A-Life Initiative which aims to make AED more accessible to the public and the myResponder app (fire module). It also includes information on SGSecure, a national movement to enable our community to prevent and deal with terrorism.
In addition, the latest CDEH includes tips on how to perform “hands-only CPR” without mouth-to-mouth ventilation. When performed early, “hands-only CPR” has been found to be as effective in increasing a victim’s chance of survival as conventional CPR.
In light of the COVID-19 situation, an advisory on the use of surgical/face masks when responding to cardiac arrest cases as well as an update on the inclusion of healthcare supplies like spare surgical/face masks and sanitisers in the Ready Bag are also included.
Other key updates include fire safety tips to prevent battery fires, and fire safety information on piped town gas and solar panel fire.
