At 1654hrs, SCDF was alerted to a fire at Blk 612 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4. 1 Fire Engine, 2 Firebikes, 1 Red Rhino, 2 Ambulances were immediately dispatched to the location and arrived at the incident site within 5 minutes. Upon arrival, SCDF personnel conducted forcible entry into the unit and fire was seen in the kitchen area. Thick black smoke filled the unit. SCDF personnel, wearing breathing apparatus sets, used 1 water jet to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes. The fire was confined to the kitchen area.

SCDF fire fighters rescued two elderly females from separate bedrooms of the unit. Forcible entry was conducted into the bedroom further away from the kitchen and one female casualty was found crouching in the corner of the bedroom. She was carried to safety by a fire fighter.

The second casualty was found in a crouching position in a bedroom nearest the kitchen and she was carried to safety by two fire fighters.

Approximately 30 people were evacuated from the 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th levels of the block as a precautionary measure.

As a result of the fire, contents of the kitchen including a stove and kitchen cabinet were destroyed. The unit also sustained heat and smoke damages.

The two elderly females were conscious when they were conveyed to SGH for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
