Fire at Kg Siglap Mosque
This afternoon at around 2.12pm, SCDF was alerted to a fire at Kg Siglap Mosque.
SCDF responded within 5 minutes to the location and deployed 2 Fire Engines, 2 Red Rhinos, 1 Ambulance and 3 Support Vehicles.
Upon arrival, SCDF officers found the roof of the mosque fully engulfed, threatening to spread to the other parts of the building. The fire is believed to have started from a bookshelf on the 2nd floor of the mosque building which subsequently spread from the prayer hall to the roof. SCDF set up a total 5 water jets and 1 aerial jet and prevented the fire from spreading from the mid-section of the mosque building housing the prayer hall to the classrooms and offices at the adjoining blocks within the compound.
The fire was under control within 45 minutes. Damping down operations is currently ongoing.
As a result of the fire, 150 persons were evacuated by the mosque staff before the arrival of SCDF. A Malay man in his 50s, tripped and fell outside the mosque. He was conveyed to Changi General Hospital with complaints of pain in his right shoulder and knees.
The cause of fire is currently under investigations.
