On 13 January 2014 at 2211hrs, SCDF was activated for a fire at Mariana Bay Suites, No. 3 Central Boulevard. 3 fire engines, 3 Light Fire Attack Vehicles and 4 support vehicles and 1 Ambulance were despatched to the incident.

Upon arrival within 7 minutes, SCDF responders reported smoke emitting from several upper floors. The smoke was traced to the 65th floor. SCDF fire fighters encountered heavy smoke and intense heat as they made their way to the 65th floor.

SCDF responders conducted forcible entry using breaking tools and found that the service lift lobby area serving the 65 floor was fully engulfed in flames. The fire involved contents believed to be renovation materials and was swiftly extinguished using 3 water jets. The fire was confined to the service corridor and lift area. SCDF fire fighters discovered 2 charred bodies inside the 65 floor service lift opening.

Several residents had self-evacuated prior to SCDF"s arrival. SCDF had assisted in evacuating a handful of residents from the 53rd floor onwards. All residents were allowed to return to their units when the situation was ascertained to be safe.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
