Island-wide sounding of the Public Warning System (PWS) sirens on Wednesday, 15 February 2017 at 6:20 pm
13 February 2017

In support of Total Defence (TD) Day, the SCDF will be sounding the "Important Message" signal through the island-wide network of Public Warning System (PWS) sirens on Wednesday, 15 February 2017 at 6:20 pm. Do not be alarmed by the minute-long sounding exercise.

The signal will also sound for all smartphones that have the SGSecure Mobile App downloaded, and are not on silent or vibration mode. The signal will stop once the message is acknowledged or cease after 20 seconds. This will be followed by a brief text on the PWS sounding.

When you hear the "Important Message" signal, tune in immediately to any local radio station for a brief message on the PWS. If you miss the radio message, visit the SCDF website at www.scdf.gov.sg to know more about the PWS signals.

The PWS siren is sounded at 6:20 pm on 15 February to mark the time in which the British had surrendered to the Japanese Imperial Forces on this fateful day in 1942. The PWS sounding serves to give due significance and remembrance to this historical moment. It also underscores the importance of emergency preparedness and for Singaporeans to defend our homeland.

To prevent any undue public alarm, we seek your assistance to carry the above information in your news bulletins to remind the public on the sounding.
