Launch of CD Emergency Handbook

Event Details
As part of its on-going efforts to raise civil defence awareness and prepare the population to deal with emergencies, SCDF is launching its latest edition of the Civil Defence Emergency Handbook, the seventh in the series, in December 2010. The handbook will be launched by Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs on Saturday, 4 December 2010 at Nee Soon East Community Club.

CD Emergency Handbook
First introduced in 1990, enters its 20th year in print and has been regularly updated with new emergency scenarios. The latest edition includes new topics include information on basic first aid for sprains, stroke and fits, car fires as well as advisories on earthquakes and typhoons for those travelling overseas.
iPhone Apps
SCDF is producing four iPhone Applications on Fire Safety, Basic First Aid, CPR and Unconventional threats and peacetime emergencies. This will provide iPhone and iPad users the flexibility to view emergency procedures via the interactive and step-by-step animation and videos.
The first Apps on Fire Safety will be rolled out on 4 December 2010. It will teach the public important life-saving skills in fire prevention and safety. Topics include what you should do when your clothes catch fire, how you should safely escape from a smoke-logged room and how to put out small fires using a fire extinguisher.
SCDF is partnering Singtel, Starhub and CityGas to run a contest for iPhone and iPad users who download the apps. They stand a chance to win attractive prizes (sponsored by CityGas) by participating in an online quiz here on www.scdf.gov.sg.
