Overturned Road Tanker at the Junction of Upper Changi Road East and Xilin Avenue
28 February 2009

At 1710 hrs, SCDF Control Room received a call informing that a road tanker had just overturned at the above-mentioned location. 1 Ambulance, 2 Fire engines, 3 Support Appliances, including SCDF's Hazardous Materials Response Team were dispatched.

On arrival, the crew found the driver seated at the road side, with slight abrasion on the right knee and bruises on both palms. He was conveyed to Changi General Hospital and was given outpatient treatment. The crew found the oil tanker overturned on its left side, with slight leakage of the diesel product from one of the 5 top hatches of the main tank. As a safety precaution, the SCDF crew immediately applied foam on the spillage to prevent any possible ignition of the fuel. Special chemical absorbents were used to surround the spillage so as to absorb and contain the spill.

At the time of the news release, the road tanker company is making arrangement to upright the overturned road tanker. SCDF crew is on standby at the scene.
