Road Traffic Incident involving a lorry and a car at Junction of Gambas Ave and Woodlands Ave 12
17 October 2009

At 0416hrs, SCDF received a call informing of a road traffic accident involving a lorry & car at the junction of Gambas Ave & Woodlands Ave 12. Upon receiving the notification, 1 Fire Engine, 1 Red Rhino, 5 Ambulances and 1 Support Appliance were despatched immediately to the incident location.

On arrival, the crew found a lorry that had collided onto a traffic light at the junction and a crashed Mitsubishi Lancer beside it. As a result, the male Indian lorry driver and his front female passenger were trapped. The driver sustained spinal injuries whilst his female passenger sustained facial cuts and complained of chest pain. SCDF rescuers immediately deployed a hydraulic cutter/spreader and extricated the casualties within 20mins upon arrival.

The other 5 Indian male and 5 female passengers of the lorry and the male Chinese driver and his female passenger in the Mitsubishi Lancer suffered minor injuries. They were all conveyed by SCDF ambulances to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment.

The 2 children in the lorry were conveyed to KK Children Hospital for treatment.
