SCDF Conducts Stepped-up Enforcement Checks
13 December 2014

As part of its yearly stepped-up enforcement checks, officers from SCDF"s Central Enforcement Department conducted checks at public entertainment outlets and shopping centres at Bugis, Sengkang, and Chinatown yesterday night, 12thDecember 2014.

Some of the fire safety violations detected were non-functioning exit lights, obstruction to common passageways and exit doors, and using staircases as storage areas. Such violations would impede the safe evacuation of people during an emergency.

SCDF would like to remind the public that fire safety infringements is an offence under the Fire Safety Act. Contravention of the act may result in a fine not exceeding $10,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months, or both. For first time offenders, they may be served with the Fire Hazard Abatement Notices (FHAN) or Notice of Fire Safety Offence (NFSO) depending on the type and severity of the violations. SCDF"s stepped-up enforcement checks will continue throughout the festive season.
