On 4th January 2020, Banyan Fire Station held its 10th year anniversary which coincided with its official operationalisation date exactly a decade ago.
Themed “Past & Present”, the event serves to commemorate past contributions of the pioneer batches of Banyan Fire Station personnel, as well as to celebrate the current achievements of the present serving personnel. The hard work of all station personnel were rewarded with the crowning of the Best Fire Station twice in a row in 2018 and 2019.
In the 10 years of operations, the station was put to the test in various fire incidents. One of the most significant incidents would be the JAC Oil Tank Fire that occurred in April 2016. Priding ourselves as ‘The Home of the Big Guns’, this station is also one of only two stations in SCDF with the large monitor capabilities catered specifically for oil tank fire-fighting.
This year will also see the operationalisation of the new Modular Oil Tank Fire-fighting System (MOTFS). While we look forward to operationalising the new enhanced capabilities, it is equally important that we document the significant role that the current big guns have played in oil tank fire-fighting operations on Jurong Island. The big guns have been with the Force for close to 20 years. As such, a mini-gallery in the station has been created for this purpose.
