On 21 November 2019, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) organised the inaugural First Responders Safety & Performance Symposium (FRSPS) at the Singapore Expo Convention and Exhibition Centre. Temasek Foundation was SCDF’s strategic partner for this symposium. Concurrently, SCDF co-curated the academic programme for this symposium with its knowledge partner, the Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS).

From 18 to 20 November 2019, SCDF organised the International Elite Rescuers Exchange (IERE) Workshop at the Home Team Tactical Centre. In this three-day event, emergency services personnel from different countries gathered for a fruitful exchange of training skills and knowledge. Participants were engaged through various exercises to gain insights into one another’s modus operandi.

The 2019 Singapore-Global Firefighters and Paramedic Challenge (SGFPC) consists of three categories of competition namely, the Global Challenge, Singapore Challenge, and Public Challenge. This year, SCDF and 13 international teams participated in the Global Challenge category.

On 20 August 2019, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) commissioned three new marine firefighting vessels. The commissioning ceremony was witnessed by Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs & Minister for Law. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Shanmugam said the new vessels will further enhance SCDF’s marine firefighting capabilities. At the press briefing, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Derek Tan, Commander of the SCDF Marine Division, said that with the addition of the three new vessels, the SCDF Marine Division currently has a total of eight firefighting vessels in its fleet and also more could be added in the future. Meet SCDF’s full-time National Serviceman (NSF) PTE Jastine Tan, a winner of not one but two prestigious awards at a recent short film competition hosted by cINE65. cINE65 is an initiative launched by Nexus in July 2011 with an aim to capture our Singaporean identity through the lenses of local aspiring filmmakers. Jastine’s short film entitled, ‘My Homeland: A Photography Project by Grandpa Chen’ was awarded the Best Overall Film and the Movies Makers Award. Jastine is an active member of the SCDF’s Media Production Unit (MPU), Corporate Communications Department (CCD).
