On 12 March 2020, the Civil Defence Lionhearter (CDLH) Club at Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD) clinched the Jyoti and Aditya Mathur Student Achievement Award for being the Outstanding Student Organisation at SUTD.

The Student Achievement Award recognises students who had brought honour to the University by demonstrating exceptional performance in their Fifth Row activities and contributed positively towards the quality and vibrancy of campus life by impacting the SUTD community positively.

President of the CD Lionhearter Club, Mr Adam Idris Lim Wei, said that he was humbled by the school’s recognition of his team’s effort in growing the club to what it is today.

“It feels good that we have a 6-person committee right now and the club is steadily growing. In the past, we used to have just three persons in the committee. And without any structure in place, it was challenging. So, we did all we could for the club, pushing for many initiatives and getting a lot of things done,” said Mr Adam.

Mr Adam’s proudest moment as the club’s president was to learn that some of his members applied lifesaving skill sets taught in the club in real life incidents and offered help to the community.

As the COVID-19 situation is evolving, and schools are taking their lessons and activities online, Mr Adam and his team have reached out to other CD Lionhearters across Singapore by forming a WhatsApp Group Chat to continue their conversations and plans to grow the CDLH community.

“Moving forward, we (as a club) hope to have more opportunities from the school to provide coverage for major events in the future,” said Ms Pui Jia Ying, Vice President of CDLH, who was a former member of St John’s Brigade. She is the school’s freshman who aspires to design products that will benefit the healthcare industry by pursuing her studies at SUTD.
